Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: How many colonics do I need?
A: A series of twelve over nine weeks is recommended to enhance your healing experience. Two consecutive days for the first week; followed by two for the second week and two consecutive days for the third week. After that, one session per week for the next six (6) weeks.
The number of treatments vary with each individual and his/her condition. Often waste can be so hard and deeply impacted in the colon that it may take a series of colonics to sufficiently loosen it. Colonics also stimulate the liver, kidney and lymph systems to unload toxins. Your therapist will be able to advise you on the number of colonics that may be right for you.
Remember this is gravity fed water that we are talking about (not surgery). So, the process can take time because it is your body's natural way of releasing and returning the colon to eliminate properly and efficiently.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Is colon irrigation safe?
A: Yes. Our device is among the most sophisicated of FDA approved colon hydrotherapy devices. We use disposable speculums. This sterile procedure ascertains that there is no danger of contamination. It is actually much safer than the common enema.
Q: What is the difference between an enema and colon lavage?
A: An enema only bathes the lower part of the colon while a colonic washes the entire length of the colon. According to Dr. Norman Walker, "One colonic is equivalent to 30 enemas."
A colonic will bathe the full length of the large intestines. The colon is approximately five to five and half feet long and about two and a half inches in diameter. Colonics do not cleanse the small intestine. Nature provides a little "one way door" called the illeocecal valve which prevents water and waste from washing up into it.
Q: I have 1 to 3 bowel movements a day; do I still need colon lavage?
A: Everyone can benefit from a series of colonics. A person can still be constipated despite daily bowel movements. Accumulated waste, mucous and gas in the colon may inhibit it's natural inclination for peristaltic action. This often results in incomplete (although frequent) bowel movements. This backup of toxic waste can cause a wide range of problems anccomplexities in the digestive tract as well as throughout the entire body as a result of toxins seeping through the walls of the colon, into the blood stream, and ultimately to bodily organs.
Q: Does it hurt?
A: No. As a result of advanced equipment and a fully trained colon hydrotherapist, colon lavage is not painful. In fact, we are told by our clients that the experience is that of being a Relieving, Refreshing and Relaxing experience. Not to mention - the extra stuff that we throw in such as aromatherapy, reflexology, heated pads and gentle massage. This makes for an easy release and enjoyable experience.
Q: Is it habit forming?
A: No. The purpose of colon lavage is to allow for cleansing of the entire length of the colon in order to allow it to relax and rejuvenate and to promote better peristalsis. Therefore, resulting in it not having to work so hard to get rid of accumulated waste, gas and toxins.
Q: Should I see my doctor before having a colon lavage?
A: A medical examination is not required for colon lavage. In fact, colon hydrotherapy is safer than home enemas. However, it is always a good idea to consult your doctor before receiving any treatment, anywhere. Feel free to print the list of FAQs if that helps you to better explain the process to your doctor or others.
Q: Does having a menstrual period at the time of my colonic have an effect on treatment?
A: This is actually an ideal time to have a colon hydrotherapy. Your period is your body's way of cleaning. This sacred time of the month actually aids in furthering your cleansing process. Your menstrual flow will not interfere with the sucess of treatment. In fact, flushing the colon will also reduce abdominal pressure associated with menstrual cycles.
Q: How will I feel after colon hydrotherapy?
A: Most people experience a feeling of lightness and some even get a burst of energy afterwards. You should not feel any intestinal discomfort. However, cleansing in this way will release a lot of old debris and toxins which, for some, can cause a short flu- like symptoms such as slight body aches. If so, rest is recommended. This usually passes within 24 hours or less.
Q: Will treatment damage intestinal flora?
A: Encrusted feces in the colon make it impossible for the glands to produce the necessary flora, resulting in increased constipation. Cleansing the colon helps bring the acid-alkaline ratio back into balance allowing friendly bacteria/ flora to thrive while inhibiting disease causing organisms. We can re-introduce friendly bacteria back into the colon with a probiotic taken either orally or by including a probiotic at the end of your colon hydrotherapy session.
